IELTS Writing Task 2 Templates: 5 Essay Types Structured

Use these IELTS Writing Task 2 templates as structural blueprints — not scripts to memorize. Each template maps the paragraph logic for one essay type so you can adapt it to any real prompt.

Templates by essay type

Each template shows paragraph purpose, key moves, and example sentence starters. Adapt the structure, not the wording.

  • The most significant reason for this view is…

IELTS Task 2 Templates FAQ

Can I use a template in the real IELTS exam?

You can use a structural template (paragraph order, logical moves) but not pre-written phrases. Memorized phrases reduce your Lexical Resource score if overused. Use the template as a planning tool, not a word bank.

Which template should I use for an opinion essay?

For an opinion (agree/disagree) essay, use a 4-paragraph structure: Introduction with clear position, Body 1 supporting your view with one idea and example, Body 2 supporting your view with a second idea and example, Conclusion restating your position.

Do templates work for Band 7 and above?

Yes. High-band essays still follow predictable structural patterns. What differentiates Band 7+ is idea development, vocabulary precision, and clear topic sentences — not abandoning the structure.

How do I practice with these templates?

Choose one template, apply it to a practice prompt under timed conditions, then run the draft through an IELTS essay checker to find which criterion is weakest before revising.
